I had used all the OS(operating system) starting from java>symbian>meego>ios>windows & yup android.

Best thing about android is its most customizable OS . Its 2nd fastest after iOS thats of iPhone. All people not able to afford the iPhone, its costly because its brand popularity.

iPhone got a big competitor as android & now it has lost its top position of peoples choice.

Android is most liked OS in top countries specially in INDIA. Well am i boring by this speech?:P ok lets come to the point.

The minimum features of an average android should be atleast 3.5inch screen to view all the GOOD things & also BAD things in your ANDROID ;). Lots of people dont have the knowledge of quality in screens & the sellers easily take the advantage to make them fool thats its a HD screen. You can simply check the features on the BOX of phone, at start u may purchase a qvga screen phone. Its an average screen & decent clearity.

Next you look about the processor of the phone. Like the pc & laptops, mobiles also have processors. Starting from 600MHZ(megahertz) to a monsterous 2.3GHz(gigahertz) operated by phones. You can choose according to your need & usage, 1GHz would be enough it will easily manage ALMOST ALL OF YOUR NEEDS :P. Processors are of several types- single core,dual core&quad core. Quad core are heaviest & are known for heavy multitasking

Now look for OS, google has regularly updated new OS for android. Starting from FrYo android 1.1 to the latest kitkat android 4.4. Most of popular os nowdays are Gingerbread android2.3 , Icecreamsandwich android 4.1 & jellybean android 4.2. You can buy according to your taste. These are main points to be kept in mind before buy a new android.
